Abstract: This study evaluates the applicability of the Analytic Hierarchy Process integrated with Geographic Information Systems for reclassifying flood-vulnerable areas in Areal-RJ, a city in the mountainous region of Rio de Janeiro State, severely affected by the January 2011 disaster. Remote sensing data, digital elevation models, meteorological series, and socioeconomic indicators were integrated into a multi-criteria methodology&#xD;
that hierarchized six conditioning factors through pairwise comparison matrices. The main scientific contribution lies in the systematization of replicable procedures for municipalities with data limitations and incorporates social vulnerability as an analysis criterion. The comparison between the results demonstrated logical consistency and significant spatial agreement with CPRM mapping, especially in critical river confluence areas. The generated cartographic products support territorial management instruments and mitigation policies in accordance with the National Policy for Civil Protection and Defense. The methodological transparency and the use of public data with open-source software enable appropriation by municipal managers, strengthen preventive risk management, and contribute to the construction of resilient territories.

    <title>A sustentabilidade em cidades pequenas: priorização de indicadores</title>

Abstract: Urban growth and the problems associated with unplanned urbanization have driven the formulation of goals and indicators aimed at promoting sustainability in cities. In this context, initiatives such as the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), NBR ISO 37120, and the Sustainable Cities Program stand out, which together bring together hundreds of indicators designed to assess urban performance in the social, economic, and environmental dimensions. Although these instruments are fundamental for guiding public policies and monitoring urban development, their application in small cities faces limitations related to scale, administrative capacity, and data availability, making it necessary to prioritize indicators more suited to the local reality. Thus, this research aims to select urban sustainability indicators applicable to small cities, up to 50.000 inhabitants, considering the three dimensions of sustainability. The methodology is based on a comparative analysis of the main existing benchmarks, the incorporation of the perception of the local population, and technical validation by experts through the application of questionnaires. By integrating social and institutional actors, the study sought to prioritize indicators that are more coherent and sensitive to the specificities of small cities. As a result, a final set of 56 validated indicators is proposed, with greater adherence to the socio-spatial reality of these municipalities and potential for application in sustainable urban planning.

Abstract: Urban solid waste management is one of the most urgent environmental challenges, especially in low-income communities located on slopes, where access difficulties to proper waste handling exacerbate the issue. High urban density, lack of basic infrastructure, and the absence of effective public policies are recurrent factors. Human actions related to the disordered use and occupation of land, such as the improper disposal of waste, degrade the environment and increase susceptibility to landslides. The research aimed to evaluate the relationship between improper solid waste management and the occurrence of landslides in the Alto Independência neighborhood, in Petrópolis-RJ, an area characterized by high socio-environmental&#xD;
vulnerability. Quantitative and qualitative approaches were used, including spatial analyses performed with QGIS software, data from the Civil Defense and COMDEP, as well as interviews with residents and municipal managers. The results revealed that the lack of regular waste collection in significant parts of the studied area contributes to waste accumulation in critical points, intensifying soil instability. It was found that residents face difficulties in properly disposing of waste due to the insufficient availability of dumpsters and collection&#xD;
routes. The proposed interventions include expanding selective collection, creating accessible collection points, and integrating the community into planning and executing actions aimed at mitigating environmental risks and improving living conditions for residents in slope areas

Abstract: Urban densification in Brazilian cities has caused significant environmental impacts, such as the intensification of heat islands and the loss of thermal comfort. In this context, green roofs emerge as a sustainable alternative to mitigate these effects by providing natural thermal insulation, reducing solar radiation absorbed by buildings, and improving air humidity. However, their efficiency depends on the appropriate selection of plant species, especially in hot and humid climates such as Rio de Janeiro, characterized by high solar radiation and heavy&#xD;
rainfall. Therefore, this research was conducted through a systematic literature review, developed according to the PRISMA protocol, which guided the stages of identification, screening, eligibility, and inclusion of studies, and based on the PICO strategy, used to tructure the research question and define selection criteria. The objective was to identify the plant species with the best performance for application on green roofs under these climatic conditions. The results highlighted Sedum and Callisia repens as the most efficient species&#xD;
due to their high resistance, low water demand, and good adaptation to tropical climates. It is concluded that the appropriate selection of vegetation is crucial for the thermal and environmental performance of the system, reinforcing the potential of green roofs as an urban sustainability strategy.
