Abstract: Introduction: The COVID-19 pandemic revealed structural weaknesses in healthcare systems and the global supply chain, exacerbating shortages of personal protective equipment (PPE), especially face masks. This scenario compromised the safety of healthcare professionals and the general population, demanding effective emergency solutions that were both accessible and sustainable. Understanding this phenomenon in light of Ulrich Beck's Risk Society Theory, this study proposed the development of an innovative fabric mask model with a cellulose filter element (LisLu20®), conceived as a technological alternative to mitigate the risks associated with the biological disaster of COVID-19. The research explored not only the technical feasibility of the mask, but also the social and environmental impacts of this innovation in a context of great vulnerability and scarcity. General Objective: To develop a fabric mask model with a cellulose filter element, aimed at citizens, healthcare professionals, and vulnerable communities, as a strategy to mitigate the impacts of the biological disaster of COVID-19. Specific Objectives: To describe the challenges faced in the context of shortages of medical and hospital supplies, considering the impacts on human safety, sustainability, and risk management; to analyze the development process and effectiveness of masks as a sustainable technological alternative for healthcare professionals and vulnerable populations; and to discuss the social adoption of this technology, its media repercussions, and its alignment with sustainable practices and disaster risk management strategies. Methodology: The study used action research as a central approach, integrating scientific investigation and practical problem-solving in a collaborative, dynamic, and collective process involving healthcare professionals, hospital managers, and researchers from various institutions. The research began with the conception and development of prototypes of the LisLu20® mask, followed by technical refinements based on empirical tests. Laboratory validation included air permeability and physical barrier efficiency tests, conducted at an institution certified by regulatory agencies. The process also involved registering the trademark and intellectual property of the developed model, as well as the dissemination and distribution of the masks and methods of their artisanal production, aiming at large-scale applicability. To capture qualitative perceptions from participants, the World Café dynamic was used, applied in two distinct contexts: (1) hospital, in which managers and health professionals evaluated the usability of the developed masks; and (2) community, where seamstresses and others responsible for the production process discussed the challenges and impacts of production. The participants' discourses were processed using the IRaMuTeQ software, allowing for a detailed lexical analysis and the identification of emerging categories in light of Beck's Risk Society Theory. Results: Laboratory tests demonstrated that the LisLu20® masks showed satisfactory effectiveness as a physical barrier against suspended particles, combining safety, breathability, and low cost. The receptiveness of health professionals was positive, highlighting the comfort and viability of the model in situations of PPE shortage. Analysis of social perception revealed the potential of technology as a viable alternative for managing health crises. Furthermore, the dissemination of the study on social media, events, academic websites, and in the press consolidated its pertinence and relevance as an innovative proposal in addressing the pandemic. Conclusions: The development of the LisLu20® mask proved to be an innovative, accessible, and sustainable solution, demonstrating applicability in both hospital response and community protection. Faced with the global shortage of PPE, the technology emerged as an effective strategy to mitigate risks in public health emergencies and biological disasters. The results reinforce the understanding that the pandemic was not only a health crisis but also a socio-technical and political phenomenon in which uncertainties and impacts were unequally distributed. The case of the mask shortage during COVID-19 illustrates this dynamic, demonstrating how dependence on global supply chains amplified vulnerabilities and reinforced inequalities in access to essential resources. Furthermore, the action-research strategies undertaken in this study attest to the importance of universities and collaborative networks for scientific production, as well as the relevance of developing local, low-cost, and socially engaged technologies to strengthen the resilience of populations in the face of global disasters and uncertainties.

Abstract: Introduction: In the 1970s, Callista Roy developed the Middle-Range Theory of Coping and Adaptation and the Coping and Adaptation Processing Scale, whose Brazilian version still lacks evidence of the testability of its theoretical constructs. Objective: General: To analyze the evidence of validity and psychometric reliability of the Brazilian version of the “Coping and Adaptation Processing Scale” in the perioperative orthopedic population. Specific Objectives: To verify the stability of the “Coping and Adaptation Processing Scale” at different perioperative moments in orthopedic surgeries and to estimate the internal structure of the “Coping and Adaptation Processing Scale” at different perioperative moments in orthopedic surgeries. Method: Psychometric study in accordance with Standards, 2014. The research setting was na institute specializing in medium and high complexity orthopedic surgeries in Rio de Janeiro. The sample consisted of 450 participants in the perioperative period of primary total hip and knee arthroplasty surgeries, considering 5-10 individuals per item. For statistical analysis, the FACTOR and JAMOVI programs were used. Descriptive analyses of&#xD;
sociodemographic, clinical, and orthopedic data were performed, through data collection from medical records, in order to characterize the participants. Subsequently, the scale was applied. The psychometric procedures consisted of stability analysis with 46 participants in the preoperative, immediate postoperative, and late postoperative periods; who were subsequently allocated to the preoperative group. Test-retest analysis was performed using non-parametric repeated measures analyses for each group, followed by ANOVA for the entire sample. To analyze the validity evidence of the internal structure considering the 450 participants, the&#xD;
following methods were adopted: matrix definition; sample adequacy test; determination of the number of factors; factor extraction and rotation; and bias correction. Results: The scale showed temporal stability. The scores indicated a reduction in coping strategies in the immediate postoperative period in response to surgical stimuli. FACTOR analysis identified that the five-factor model does not adequately explain the construct, suggesting unidimensionality. In the JAMOVI analysis, after the sixth round, the model found presented three dimensions, defined as input, central, and output processes, according to the theoretical proposition, absence of negative items or items with double saturation, acceptable RMSEA, solid TLI, more consistent theoretical structure, items with loadings ≥ 0.40, and overall McDonald’s Omega reliability of 0.94. Conclusions: The model found differs from the original proposed model. This is attributed to the sociocultural and linguistic particularities and the inequalities in access to healthcare present in the Brazilian population compared to developed populations. The contribution of the study lies in the possibility of rigorously investigating the factorial structure of the instrument applied to a clinical scenario permeated by complex human responses such as the orthopedic perioperative period, a context that previously lacked research references on the scale’s structure. The study strengthens the disciplinary knowledge of nursing since, through the empirical testability of a theory, it is possible to improve clinical practice and the decision-making process. The findings further reinforce the importance of new investigations aimed at verifying metric and conceptual invariance in other clinical and sociocultural contexts.

Abstract: Introduction: This study analyzes the contemporary configuration of Research Groups (RPGs) in Nursing History in Brazil, focusing on their organizational structure and the scientific production profile of their leaders between 2000 and 2023. It is based on the hypothesis that transformations in the field of Nursing have reconfigured Research Groups, potentially indicating the emergence of a new generation or the deepening of the most recent generation described by Salles and Barreira (2010). Accordingly, the study aims to characterize the Nursing History research groups (HE-RPGs) registered in the Brazilian Directory of Research Groups; to describe the scientific production profile of their leaders; and to analyze the extent to which these configurations reveal processes of continuity, renewal, or generational transformation in the field of Nursing.Method: This is a documentary and analytical-descriptive study, grounded in a quantitative historical approach, which examined official data from the CNPq Directory of Research Groups covering the period from 2000 to 2023. Data collection involved identifying and manually extracting information available on the RPGs’ webpages and on the Lattes curricula of their leaders, following the criteria of pertinence, sufficiency, exhaustiveness, representativeness, and homogeneity proposed by Barros (2012). Data treatment consisted of organizing variables into spreadsheets, thematic segmentation, consolidation of historical series, and the application of descriptive statistical procedures. The interpretative analysis articulated the results through Karl Mannheim’s concepts of generational position, generational connection, and generational unit, complemented by the scientific generation model of Salles and Barreira (2010), which guided the sociological and historiographical interpretation. This integration between quantification and interpretation made it possible to examine patterns, continuities, and potential generational inflections in the constitution of the Nursing History research groups in Brazil. Results: The results indicate a significant expansion in scientific production, along with growth in the number of researchers, increased academic qualifications, and greater diversity of educational backgrounds within the groups. Leaders exhibited robust academic trajectories, predominantly linked to consolidated graduate programs, which contributed to the qualification and visibility of the HE-RPGs. An initial institutional concentration in the Southeast region was identified, followed by progressive internalization and a more balanced geographic distribution in the past decade, reflecting processes of expansion and democratization of research across the country. Growth in the number of groups, institutional diversification, expansion of research lines, and the strengthening of federal institutions as central loci of historical production were also observed. Leaders demonstrated high academic qualifications, participation in collaborative networks, and significant bibliographic, technical, and cultural outputs, albeit with regional asymmetries. Their trajectories also revealed increasing articulation between Nursing History, Public Health, and Education, reflecting the thematic transversality that characterizes newer generations of researchers. Additionally, diversification of production formats, geographic expansion, alternating cycles of growth and retraction influenced by funding policies, changes in graduate education, and the impacts of the pandemic were identified, along with the strengthening of collaborative networks, expansion of internationalization, and adaptation to CAPES evaluation requirements. When interpreted through the generational framework, these findings suggest that while the HE-RPGs preserve characteristics of the fifth scientific Generation, such as&#xD;
internationalization, indexing, and collective production, they also incorporate emerging elements, such as digitalized practices, increased thematic transversality, and reorganized scientific production, indicating a transitional movement toward a hybrid generation in the field of Nursing History. Final Considerations: The scientific community of Nursing in Brazil has undergone important structural transformations in recent decades, driven by the expansion of graduate education, CAPES evaluation policies, and increasing internationalization. However, these changes do not constitute the rupture necessary to define a new generation; rather, they reinforce the consolidation of the fifth generation described by Salles and Barreira. Researchers share generational position, connection, and unit, expressed through similar academic trajectories, shared formative experiences, and relatively stable collective practices. Recent phenomena such as the digitalization of scientific work, intensification of virtual networks, and the emergence of artificial intelligence technologies point to potential future inflections, but they have not yet produced effects sufficient to characterize a new generation.

Abstract: Introduction: Cholera is an acute diarrheal infection caused by the ingestion of food or water contaminated with Vibrio cholerae. Its severe form is characterized by extreme watery diarrhea and potentially fatal dehydration. Although it can be easily treated with simple measures such as oral rehydration salts, cholera remains a significant threat due to its high morbidity and mortality among vulnerable populations with limited access to basic sanitation and adequate healthcare. Objective: To describe the incidence, mortality, and case fatality rates of cholera in Haiti between the years 2010 and 2023.Method: This is an epidemiological, observational, cross- sectional study based on secondary, publicly available data from the World Health Organization and the Ministry of Public Health of Haiti. Descriptive analyses are presented using absolute case numbers and population-based rates. Results: The annual cholera case volume reached 3,336, and the mortality rate rose to 40 deaths per 100,000 inhabitants. The case fatality rate was 2.3%. The cholera epidemic that occurred in Haiti between 2010 and 2011 was associated with the consequences of the 2010 earthquake. The low incidence or renewed surge in 2022 was attributed to underreporting of cases, persistent poverty, and lack of access to adequate healthcare and sanitation services. Conclusion: The identification of health indicators related to cholera incidence, mortality, and case fatality in Haiti reveals underlying factors associated with disease occurrence and deaths. This highlights the need for effective intersectoral health promotion measures aimed at reducing or eliminating this disease.
