Abstract: Sterilization, a definitive contraceptive method, is regulated in the Family Planning Law (Lei do Planejamento Familiar nº 9.263/1996). However, despite legal provision, woman encounter numerous difficulties to carrying out this surgery. This work, of ethnographic nature, has as objective to understand the struggle for effective access to the reproductive rights of childless females who seek to carry out voluntary sterilization. For this purpose, this work seeks to describe and analyze the different processes for conducting the tubal ligation procedure, what difficulties are found and the utilized strategies for obtaining it in the public and private health services, and what are the patient’s understanding of the procedure, by narrated accounts of experiences in a group located in the cyberspace. The normative text is, here, strategically utilized for the implementation of these woman reproductive rights, who share diverse information with one another. Still, the obstacles for the surgery are perceived, by them, as an undue mismanagement to their body’s freedom, which also relates with the perception of their own identities as a woman. This comprehension, still, pervades the notion of how the estate controls, regulates, or apprehends the autonomy of the woman’s will and how this relates with the representation of maternity and non-maternity in Brazilian culture.

Abstract: Life digital mediation has become essential, and it increases the need to map social communication. However, as an explanation for the complexity that defines modernity, it is not efficient to describe <communication= as an ordinary synonym for information9s transmition. It is more than that. Niklas Luhmann's Theory of Social Systems teaches that communication operations reduces the complexities while, paradoxically, expanding them. Thus, communication is something much more improbable than it seems. Due to the improbabilities of communication, media such as language, writing and the printing press emerge. However, the technological developments of our time recommend that this study focus on electronic media, speculating on the impact of their redundancies on the political and legal systems. Therefore, based on a pertinent bibliographic review, we will conclude that it is possible to understand digitalization as the universalization of the dissemination media of communication.

Abstract: Urban floods cause a series of damages in different sectors. This result is aggravated by inadequately planned urban development processes, associated with undisciplined occupation of the territory and traditional engineering projects, which usually aim only at the rapid drainage of rainwater. A more proactive and preventive approach to the problem of flooding, in the context of urban planning, is an urgent need, demanding tool support to guide urban development, in order to preliminarily identify the main areas susceptible to flooding events, enabling actions that recognize the natural dynamics of water and the integration of sustainable urban drainage concepts in city development. In this context, this work aims to propose a multicriteria methodology for preliminary assessment of the potential risk to which an area may be subject, to subsidize the urban planning process, in a relatively simple and fast way, without the need for detailed mathematical modeling of hydrodynamic physical phenomena. This methodology seeks to offer a quantitative assessment of the potential flood risk for a situation of occupation of the territory under analysis, composing a multicriteria index that considers the susceptibility of the physical environment to floods and the vulnerability of the urban system potentially affected by floods. The methodology will be applied to a case in the Piraquê-Cabuçu River basin, located in the municipality of Rio de Janeiro.

Abstract: This research investigates the impact of racism on the identification of contemporary domestic slave labor in Brazil, through the lens of intersecting oppressions, with racism serving as the central theme throughout the study. In this context, the research was conducted by examining the current state of contemporary slave labor in the country and looking back to the past to understand the present. The abolition of slavery in Brazil did not come with a plan to integrate the Black population into Brazilian society, leaving these individuals marginalized, without housing or food. Racism plays a crucial role in this process by subjugating the Black population and, in the case of Black women, further oppressing them and associating them with servile roles, such as domestic work. Moreover, racism acts as a key mechanism in the capitalist system, supporting its continued operation. The research focused on contemporary domestic slave labor in Brazil, examining its connections to both historical domestic slave labor and paid domestic work. In analyzing contemporary domestic slave labor, the study gave special attention to the civil action of case No. 1000612-76.2020.5.02.0053. This case is emblematic because, for the first time, it brought the issue to the Superior Labor Court, setting a precedent for similar future situations. Through a comprehensive literature review and empirical analysis, this research concluded that racism hinders the recognition of contemporary domestic slave labor by subjugating domestic workers, who are predominantly Black women, and normalizing violence against them. This entire process is reinforced by white supremacy and the legal system.
