Os significados do primeiro encontro entre o pai e seu filho prematuro: contribuição para a enfermagem neonatal

Abstract

In Brazil, the number of premature birth and, consequently, the birth of babies Who requires specialized care in intensive care units hás increased significantly. In this context, the father has a key role because It’s him who, in most cases, will be the first to visit the child and He’ll be the Herald of the first information to his wife and his family.The study’s purpose is the first meeting between the father and the premature baby in the NICU. Objectives: discribe the first meeting of the father and his son in the NICU and analyse the meanings of the first meeting of father and his premature son in the NICU. It regards to a qualitative, descriptive and exploratory research. The subjects of this study were the fathers of premature infants hospitalized in the NICU. The study was submitted to the Research and Ethics Committee (CAAE: 0021.0.361.000-10) from MEUFRJ. The technique for data collection was semistructured interview. Thematic analysis was developed. From this analysis five categories were emerged: “The path of the first meeting”, “The first meeting: the premature baby and the Technologies”, “Feelings and emotions of fathers in the first meeting”, “Building the relationship with the team from the first meeting”, and “Appreciation oh fatherhood”. We conclude that the father should be highlighted within the NICU, especially in that first meeting and the team has a fundamental role this time.
