Saberes e cultura do povo Wai Wai

Abstract

The general objective of this dissertation is to gather testimonies from elders and rememberers of ancestral knowledge and practices of the Wai Wai people. With the massive presence of evangelization practices of the Wai Wai people, more and more people have been coerced to abandon their cultural and religious practices, by adopting these other practices that are foreign to their own history. From this perspective, we have the following secondary objectives: to record the speech of several individuals, in this case, those who still resist fighting for the memory of their people; to contribute so that the history of our people is not lost, but, above all, that it is recorded from the perspective of those who know and recognize themselves as a people originally from our country and to reflect on how the archive-memory of artifacts is constituted as knowledge of an oral society. The reflection on these testimonies will follow theoretical principles of the materialist school of Discourse Analysis, disseminated in Brazil by Orlandi, and will also follow the contributions of the contributions brought by Souza on the definition of languages of orality and the preservation of the memory of native peoples.
