Abstract

The present study aimed to analyze articles presented in the current literature that better elucidate the emergence of urinary symptoms in women during menopause, as well as their impacts on the health and quality of life of these patients. The research aims at the embryo-physiological explanation of this condition and aimed to analyze the prevalence of urinary symptoms in this age group, in different locations around the world. The different studies reviewed converged on the fact that there is a peak incidence of these symptoms during menopause, promoting important estrogenic action in the urinary tract. In addition, an important sociodemographic role in the emergence and prevention of this condition was noted. However, there was a need for current studies that better elucidate postmenopausal genitourinary syndrome, as well as its clinical repercussions, especially in those who underwent menopause surgery and had their serum hormone levels drop sharply
