Economia do meio ambiente e desenvolvimento sustentável: um olhar sobre o Brasil

Abstract

This book is inspired by the contributions of researchers affiliated with GEMA-IE/UFRJ over the last twenty-five years. The book is intended for anyone who wants to deepen their knowledge of these issues, whether they are economists or not. For this reason, the book has been organized into two parts. The first part seeks to address environmental issues from the perspective of heterodox economic theories. The environmental discussion has been mostly addressed by neoclassical theory, but there have also been many advances in alternative perspectives. For this reason, the chapters in the first part of the book seek to present views that differ from the mainstream, such as post-Keynesian macroeconomics and evolutionary microeconomics, emphasizing topics such as innovation, inequality, and the need for new approaches to economic policy and National Accounts metrics.The second part presents specific areas of contribution to environmental policy by authors linked to GEMA-IE/UFRJ. This includes estimates of the socioeconomic benefits of Conservation Units, analysis of the determinants of deforestation and land use, economic valuation of environmental resources, effects of climate change, and the challenge of increasing environmental financing.
