Effectuation e seus caminhos na favela e nas artes

Abstract

This thesis aims to understand the process of creating and developing enduring entrepreneurial firms. To achieve this, it examines the multiple rationalities involved in the decision-making process of entrepreneurs who have built a trajectory of more than 20 years in the artistic-cultural and favela contexts. The interpretive framework integrates two theoretical constructs: the contemporary approach to entrepreneurial activity, called effectuation, developed by Saras Sarasvathy, and the design principle called neardecomposability, by Herbert Simon. The combination of these two constructs reveals a central strategy based on the binomial of control and relational networks, which supports a business model where the interdependence between different network systems and the independence within these systems are moderated by the use of control. The way this binomial unfolds has proven crucial for the endurance and innovative capability of entrepreneurial firms.
