Patrimônio cultural imaterial em movimento: a geografia da rede cultural de maracatu de baque virado entre a cidade do Rio de Janeiro e a região metropolitana de Recife (2020-2024)

Abstract

This thesis is dedicated to understanding the relationships between space, power, politics and citizenship in the cultural network of maracatu de baque virado established among maracatu nations located in cities of the Metropolitan Region of Recife (RMR), and maracatu groups from the city of Rio de Janeiro, during the period between 2020 and 2024. The study investigates spatial strategies, in search of what the author calls performative citizenship, used by individuals and groups that make up and articulate this network in the spatial contexts of public space use and social isolation. The research explores difrerent points of view of the cultural network studied, by using multi-scale reasoning in the analysis and organization of the text, contributing to the understanding of the dynamics of symbolic-cultural, economic and power relations between maracatu’s nations and maracatu groups mediated by space. The metodology adopted is mixed, combining fieldwork (with and without participant bias), daily conversations wtih members of the network, semi-structured interviews with its articulators, with emphasis on a qualitative approach developed from ethical and epistemological principles that mark na black-brazilian worldview, affirming itseld as a black methodology. The data obtained made it possible to map and discuss cultural dynamics at different scales and temporalities, demonstrating that the network is a device for distinction in cultural relations and forms centralities by granting individuals, groups and/or institutions greater symbolic power, which, in turn, can also be exercised and reinforced through practices of conection, inclusion and belonging.
