Práticas socioespaciais das mulheres negras no trabalho doméstico : um estudo da relação entre trabalho e moradia na Região Metropolitana do Rio de Janeiro

Abstract

The dissertation focuses on the socio-spatial practices of Black domestic workers in the Rio de Janeiro Metropolitan Region, investigating how the socio-spatial segregation they experience in the territory is socially and historically constructed through racial, gender, and race dimensions in an intersectional way. The dissertation aims to investigate how socio-spatial practices shape space through enduring and fluid relationships, looking at urban space through these two keys of understanding: as structure and as experience, and how the dialectical relationship between these two perspectives provides insights for investigating the territorialization of domestic work. In its enduring form, the dissertation examines the changes and continuities in the characteristics of women who engage in domestic work and their relationship with housing and labor in the metropolitan territory over the past forty years. In its fluid form, the dissertation explores the experiences of domestic workers through semi-structured interviews with two of them. Among the findings are the renewal of practices that construct the socio-spatial segregations of domestic workers. Despite changes in the characteristics of the work, exclusionary practices experienced by them in the territory are maintained. Additionally, many forms of affection and resistance built by the interviewed workers are highlighted, as they see themselves beyond the segregation practices in their everyday and future perspectives.
