Perdas no caminho : o testemunho em Ruth Klüger e Scholastique Mukasonga

Abstract

This research seeks to treat the elaboration of the loss in the testimonial literature of authors Ruth Klüger and Scholastique Mukasonga, survivors of different genocides, respectively the Holocaust and the Rwandan Genocide. My goal was to adopt a perspective of approximation between the two authors, in order to highlight common losses present in their testimonies – even though they refer to different events. The dialogue between Ruth Klüger and Scholastique Mukasonga is carried out to show the plausibility of the approximation of memories of losses and their impacts, even when dealing with different genocidal events. The argument I propose here is that the elaboration of the losses present in the works of the authors can be explored in three axes of readings: the loss of self (depersonalization), the loss of the other (mourning) and the loss of the homeland (exile). Each of the losses conduct the chapters of the dissertation. The documents chosen for this research are the works "Landscapes of Memory" (1992) and "unterwegs verloren" (2010), by Ruth Klüger and, by Scholastique Mukasonga, "Cockroaches" (2006), "The Barefoot Woman" (2008), “Our Lady of the Nile” (2012) and "Un Si Beau Diplôme !" (2018).
