Do que falamos quando falamos sobre a morte: as conversas do movimento inFinito

Abstract

The themes concerning death and dying are polysemic and always embedded in broad historical, social and political contexts. The aim of this dissertation is to systematize social theory about death and its subsequent medicalization, describing the panorama in which the movimento inFinito emerges. This movement affirms, as does the literature, that talking about death is difficult and subject to social interdictions, also declares its objective in promoting sincere conversations about death and dying. Ethnographic research on the movement and its events, especially those held in 2020 and 2021 during the period of the COVID-19 pandemic, when they were held remotely. The research relates the main themes of these conversations as a guiding thread to explore contemporary notions about death, such as education and health, coping with grief, funeral rites performed online. In the end, it proposes the analytical category of subjectivity-to-death, as a category capable of encompassing fundamental characteristics of the participants in the events.
