Tecnologia para além do que se vê: Construindo um novo paradigma tecnológico a partir da Serra da Misericórdia (RJ)

Abstract

This work proposes to investigate some of the technologies developed from initiatives led by a group of black women in the region of Terra Prometida - Serra da Misericórdia, North Zone of Rio de Janeiro. Such associative, collective and self-organized initiatives gained strength during the Coronavirus pandemic in Brazil. I recount how the creation of a close relationship with the Serra and my own experience of gender transition influenced my perspective on Technology and its purpose. With this, I propose the construction of a new technological paradigm to see beyond what is seen, valuing practices that sustain life. I start from the changes experienced during the period of development of this work and from a critical reading of technology, demonstrating how the current paradigm is not capable of encompassing activities considered as "reproductive". I will contextualize some effects of the use of binary systems and some "processes of detechnologization" suffered by populations on the margins of the capitalist production system. In the light of these theoretical clues, I will tell stories about Terra Prometida, about the Center for Integration of Serra da Misericórdia (CEM) and the lives and technologies that are cultivated there. Using participatory methodologies, combined with audiovisual records, field diaries, activity reporting analysis, semi and unstructured interviews, I will seek to outline a new technological paradigm based on the experience of Serra da Misericórdia.
