De Copenhague a Japeri: grupo código e a transcriação teatral de um drama de Ibsen

Abstract

This thesis investigates one of the dramaturgical productions of Grupo Código — a theater company, cultural space, and non-profit organization located in the municipality of Japeri, in the Baixada Fluminense region. The work analyzed is Inimigo do povo (2009), produced based on Henrik Ibsen’s play An Enemy of the People (1882). The central hypothesis is that, in Grupo Código’s Inimigo do povo, a dramaturgical operation of transcreation takes place — borrowing the term from Haroldo de Campos — since the group’s work goes beyond a mere reinterpretation of a classic text of Ibsenian drama by translating the plot into the territory in which it is inscribed, namely Japeri. Furthermore, the research includes material collected through open interviews, approved by the Research Ethics Committee, through which the reader gains access to the history of Grupo Código and to accounts by the participants who are part of this history, thus highlighting the voices that underpin the collective examined here. The theoretical framework of the thesis includes Antonio Candido, Haroldo de Campos, Peter Szondi, Jean-Pierre Ryngaert, João Roberto Faria, among other authors. From a methodological standpoint, the research is centered on the analysis of scenes from Grupo Código’s play, thereby seeking to substantiate the hypothesis of the transcreation process of Ibsen’s work.
