O eu ao correr da máquina: a autoficção nas crônicas de Clarice Lispector no Jornal do Brasil (1967 - 1973)

Abstract

This MA thesis investigates the functioning of the autofictional mechanism in Clarice Lispector’s chronicles published in the newspaper Jornal do Brasil between 1967 and 1973. The research’s starting point is the tension generated by the author's transition from pseudonyms to her orthonymic signature, which established a new and ambiguous pact of exposure with the reading public. The central objective is to understand how Lispector employs the space of the chronicle – traditionally associated with the recording of daily life – to stage a subjectivity that blurs the boundaries between the physical individual and the literary persona. To this end, the theoretical framework is anchored in the concept of autofiction, as formulated by Serge Doubrovsky and expanded by Vincent Colonna and Diana Klinger, in dialogue with Michel Foucault’s notion of the author-function and Philippe Lejeune’s autobiographical pact. The methodology consists of a textual analysis of a selected corpus of chronicles, examining the ways in which animal alterity, solitude, and metalanguage function as devices of a deliberate aesthetic performance.The study concludes that Lispector’s chronic production in JB does not constitute a biographical appendix to her work, but rather a territory of radical experimentation where life is transfigured into literary matter, consolidating autofiction as the mechanism that allows the author to speak of herself while inventing herself “as the typewriter runs”.
