| Abstract: | A criação do Clube de Engenharia irá significar a constituição de um organismo capaz de conhecer e de planejar o desenvolvimento da cidade do Rio de Janeiro. O presente trabalho é uma tentativa de compreensão do papel do referido Clube na discussão sobre a necessidade de sanear e embelezar a cidade do Rio de Janeiro na virada do século XIX para o XX. Serão abordados alguns pareceres emitidos pelo Clube relativo aos planos e projetos elaborados para a melhoria da cidade; e analisadas as discussões ocorridas no Congresso de Engenharia e Indústria, organizado pelo Clube, onde tratou-se da questão do saneamento da cidade. |
| Abstract: | The creation of the Engineering Club will mean the constitution of a body capable of knowing and planning the development of the city of Rio de Janeiro. The present work is an attempt to understand the role of this Club in the discussion about the need to sanitize and beautify the city of Rio de Janeiro at the turn of the 19th century to the 20th. Some opinions issued by the Club regarding plans and projects designed to improve the city will be addressed; and analyzed the discussions held at the Congress of Engineering and Industry, organized by the Club, which dealt with the question of sanitation of the city. |
