Abstract

OBJECTIVE: This study aims to identify how the reception of pregnant trans men and transmasculine individuals occurs within the Unified Health System (Sistema Único de Saúde) in Brazil. It reflects on the biopsychosocial conditions that affect the construction of a parenthood that subverts cisnormative structures and proposes means of raising awareness among healthcare professionals through the creation of an informative guide and participatory reflective groups. METHODOLOGY: The methodology used consisted of a narrative literature review, based on the research and reading of articles and works related to the subject in May and June 2023. Search mechanisms from the SciELO and Google Scholar platforms were used to select productions that address the socio-historical construction of transmasculinities in Brazil from an intersectional perspective; present the biopsychosocial impacts of pregnancy in trans men and transmasculine individuals; map the devices aimed at the LGBTQIA+ population within the Unified Health System; and highlight the obstacles faced by the trans population in accessing healthcare. RESULTS: Based on the analysis of the found productions, it was possible to identify the intersections that mark transmasculine bodies, how transphobia drives pregnant trans men and transmasculine individuals away from healthcare spaces, causing psychological distress and posing risks to pregnant individuals and babies. It also identified the policies and practices created in recent decades to address these social issues. CONCLUSIONS: It was evident that, despite numerous achievements led by movements composed of the trans community, there are still obstacles due to the incompleteness of effective access to healthcare without discrimination, and the capacity to provide quality reception and care attentive to the specific needs presented by pregnant transmasculine bodies.
