Abstract
This is a qualitative study aiming at investigating the perceptions and feelings due to the experience of pregnancy loss in women diagnosed with gestational trophoblastic disease (GTD), focusing on cases of complete hydatidiform mole (CHM). Semi-structured interviews were conducted with the study subjects, ten women who were followed up in the GTD Content analysis based on Bardin (1977) revealed four categories: disclosure of the diagnosis; grief and mourning in CHM; social environment reactions; fear and wish of a future
pregnancy. The results have shown the complexicity of the experience of such loss. Given that the CHM is a pathological pregnancy where an embryo is not formed, the women, their social environment and even less prepared health professionals may question the actual existence of a pregnancy. The role of a psychologist to these women is important by giving them room to speak, which facilitates their representation of this experience and therefore their grief and mourning.
