Abstract
Today, sexuality is considered as one of the pillars of quality of life. At least 49% of women in general have already had at least some type of sexual dysfunction at some point in their lives. During gestation, these rates range from about 35% to 70% due to the physiological changes of the period and external factors. This is a traditional bibliographic review study with the objective of exploring the current literature on sexuality and female sexual dysfunction in low-risk pregnant women and the role of specialized physiotherapy in these disorders, in order to alert prenatal care professionals about the importance Knowledge and approach to the subject. Most of the studies collected generate data on the prevalence of sexual dysfunction in pregnant women, with a worsening of these indexes in pregnant women in the third gestational trimester. Some correlate the functionality of the pelvic floor muscles, being directly or indirectly related to the complaints of sexual dysfunction during pregnancy due to the changes and gestational overload on this musculature. The studies look at the need to create or emphasize existing programs of education and sexual orientation among the population and, especially, professionals about the knowledge and importance of the subject. There is a need for randomized trials with therapeutic interventions that may indicate ways to prevent and / or treat sexual dysfunctions, such as the use of physiotherapeutic protocols of perineal exercises to strengthen and raise awareness of the pelvic region.
