Abstract
Facial liposuction (FL) is a technique aimed at enhancing the contours of the face and neck by removing excess subcutaneous fat. Although minimally invasive, FL is a surgery that can lead to complications, and few studies have focused on compiling cases and detailing the management of these conditions. The purpose of this study was to report the complications of a series of 22 FL cases and their therapeutic approaches. All cases were operated on using the same surgical technique and were treated in a sequentially standardized manner, from the initial consultation to outpatient discharge. The surgery and postoperative follow-ups were documented in the medical records, with case follow-up varying between 12 and 28 weeks. The complications observed were: bruising, bleeding, hematoma, seroma, skin irregularities, and fibrosis. Bruising, observed in all cases, resolved spontaneously or was accelerated with topical medication. Hematoma (1 case) and seroma (1 case) were drained. Skin irregularities (19 cases) and fibrosis (20 cases) were treated with postoperative physiotherapy and intralesional dexamethasone injections when necessary, and completely regressed between 2 and 7 months. The complications observed were of minor severity, treated on an outpatient basis and completely resolved. No patient required surgical reintervention or presented permanent sequelae.
