Modernidade e marginalidades na cidade do Rio de Janeiro:: breve estudo sobre espaço público, indivíduo e pessoa

Abstract

The paper discusses the relation of the dynamics of consolidation of marginal spaces in the city of Rio de Janeiro with the possibilities of social action of the actors involved. It intends to discuss the insertion of the marginal spaces in the urban culture of Rio in the middle of the attempts of modernization, within a historical perspective. The disputes over the city's spaces will be apprehended as constituents of the social becoming based on the mechanisms of exploitation inherent to the capitalist productive process.
