Os caminhos do tornar-se mãe: um breve estudo sobre a construção psíquica da maternidade

Abstract

This theoretical research was originated from the psychological clinical listening of pregnant women. It was evident the need of a reconstruction of the subjective path followed by the woman, from girl to mother. To do so, it was important to discuss, first, the concepts of mother love inserted in western culture and history, and to evaluate if this same concept was natural or a value built during lifetime. The reudian logic regarding the feminine psyche and its pillars, as the Oedipus complex and the castration process, have both contributed to the understanding of the history that structures the girl and her desire of being a mother or not. Through concepts as the psychological transparency, primary maternal concern and “baby blues”, we can reflect over the unconscious mechanisms presented in pregnant and puerperal women in order to reframe the experiences of motherhood in their lives. The bibliographic research had, as its basis, the psychoanalytical theory that supports the practice of clinical appointments in therapist’s offices.
