Diálogos feministas: gerações, identidades, trabalho e direitos

Abstract

How do women constitute themselves as subjects of their own history? The collection Dialogues feminists: generations, identities, work and law, which Editora UFRJ has just released, takes this question seriously, exploring the potential opened up by the encounter between the field of social sciences and feminist criticism. The publication is for sale on the Editora UFRJ website and in Livraria da Travessa stores. Organized by Aparecida F. Moraes, professor of Sociology at UFRJ and coordinator of the Center for Studies on Sexuality and Gender (Neseg/PPGSA/UFRJ) and by Anna Bárbara Araujo and Maria Clara Gama, PhDs in Sociology and researchers from the same Center at UFRJ, The book presents studies that address the dialogues and controversies between feminist activism and perspectives, as well as between feminism and other social and political movements, organizations and institutions, offering a comprehensive overview of Brazilian feminism. Written by 11 authors, the collection is divided into four parts. In the first one, questions are raised about “Identity frontiers: feminisms, generations, movements”, addressing the identity dilemmas that involve different feminist generations. Dealing with “Feminisms, identity tensions, gender and work”, the second part analyzes the issues related to working women and, more specifically, the strong tensions between feminisms (and feminists) and an activity common to women: domestic and of care. Subsequently, “Feminisms and feminists in their relations with conservative and progressive groups” investigates the tensions and oppositions, as well as affinities and alliances, that are manifested in this movement. The fourth and final part of the book, “Feminisms and Violence: Rights and Sexual Harassment”, focuses on a historical and complex theme in the construction of Brazilian feminism: the various forms of violence that affect women.
