Desenvolvimento geográfico desigual, saúde e cidade: notas sobre o higienismo e os conflitos urbanos na cracolândia em São Paulo

Abstract

The motivation of this work is to question whether the different conceptions and discourses around health-disease are triggered in the legitimation / delegitimation of contemporary interventions involving urban renewal projects, especially in the central areas, expressing the dispute around patterns of domination and contestation to logic reproduction of capital in the city. Our objective is to reflect critically on the relationship between health and the city from the urban interventions in the great Brazilian cities, and how different conceptions and discourses around the health-disease function as a mechanism of legitimation of excluding practices subordinated to the logic of production of the city capitalist. Thinking about the disputes around the Luz region in the central area of the city of São Paulo in the 21st century, and how the discourses on health are present at the moment legitimizing these models of urbanism, producing a logic of legitimation and control of conflicts.
