Ferramentas visuais e a construção do conhecimento matemático formal: o caso das sequências numéricas reais

Abstract

The practice of a variety of producers of knowledge has led to the following question: ?How might diagrams and other visual representations help in the production and construction of knowledge?? This study explores that question. Initially, the different understandings of abstraction were analyzed. Next, field research was conducted to analyze the ways in which students as well as the instructor of Introduction to Topology used diagrams and visual representations in their daily practices. Additionally, a semi-structured interview was developed. This interview demonstrated that, although in participants? responses they did not value the use of visual diagrams and gestures, they were present throughout the interview.
