Transtextualidade no romance grego: a elegia erótica romana e Quéreas e Calírroe

Abstract

The influence of Greek literature on Latin literature has already been widely explored by scholars. However, the reverse path – that is, the analysis of possible points of convergence between Latin literature and Greek narrative – remains in an early stage. This dissertation aims to investigate the presence of themes and techniques from Roman elegiac poetry, especially from Propertius, in the Greek novel Callirhoe by Chariton of Aphrodisia. The study focuses on how the erotic disposition of the characters is constructed and which elegiac elements appear to shape the narrative structure of the novel. The analysis is grounded in the proposals of Jolowicz (2021) regarding the dialogue between Roman literature and the Greek novel, and it explores such relations through the lens of transtextuality. The study seeks to contribute to the ongoing discussions on the interactions between genres and literary traditions in Antiquity.
