Abstract:	Apresenta-se uma análise teórica do comportamento de colunas de seção U enrijecida sob carga centrada e excêntrica. Utiliza-se um método semi-energético para investigar a interação não-linear entre os modos local e global de flexão. Os resultados desta análise mostram os caminhos de equilíbrio pós-crítico local, estáveis e instáveis, para várias colunas, bem como a evolução da distribuição de tensões a que estão submetidas durante o processo pós-crítico. As cargas últimas teóricas são comparadas a alguns resultados experimentais. Além disso, é feita uma avaliação de importantes normas de projeto frente aos resultados teóricos obtidos.
Abstract:	A theoretical analysis of the behaviour of thin-walled lipped channel columns under concentric and eccentric loading is presented. A semi-energy method is used to investigate the non-linear interaction between the local and global flexural buckling modes. The results of this analysis show the stable and unstable local post-critical equilibrium paths, for various columns, plus the growth of membrane stress distribution during the post-critical process. The theoretical ultimate load is compared with some experimental results. Besides, some important design prescriptions are examined on the light of the obtained theoretical results.
