Abstract:	Não obstante o recente interesse historiográfico pela arte brasileira do século XIX, a pintura de naturezas mortas permanece um campo quase inexplorado. Este trabalho busca minimizar a carência de estudos sobre o terna ao abordar a obra de um dos mais destacados representantes do gênero entre nós, o pintor Estevão Roberto da Silva (1845-1891). Objetivando dimensionar sua contribuição à arte nacional, elaboramos um quadro de referência com base na produção dos artistas que precederam na especialidade. Através da análise de 9 de suas obras, pudemos constatar que Estevão renovou duplamente as convenções de sua época: do ponto de vista da composição e da fatura.
Abstract:	Despite the recent historiographic interest in nineteenth-century Brazilian art, still-life painting remains almost an unexplored field. This research intends to displace the lack of studies on the theme by approaching the work of one of the most distinguished still-life painters among us, Estevão Roberto da Silva (1845-1891). Willing to measure his legacy to the National art, we have made up a reference table gathering the production of those preceded him in the specialty. Based on nine Estevão’s paintings analysis, we could find out that he renewed the conventions into ways: from the viewpoint of composition and brushwork.
