Territorialidade e possibilidades de gestão local: município de Alfenas - MG

Abstract

Studies on the growth and location of the Brazilian population indicate that Brazil has consolidated itself as a metropolitan country, where about 52% of the population is distributed in metropolitan regions. Therefore, the present work is a possibility to demonstrate the importance of studying the municipalities that fit the small condition, since in their group, they hold more than 35% of the Brazilian population. The work is also an exercise in reading of some economic and social variables spatialized in the intra-urban scale. The municipality of Alfenas, in Minas Gerais, a small municipality, under 100,000 inhabitants, was chosen to evaluate the existence of social disadvantages among its internal areas. It is assumed that, even in small populations, it is possible to verify high heterogeneity in the appropriation of space, just as in large population clusters. It was sought to list and discuss the possibilities of local management under the perspectives of tendencies of the business of public power and democratic governance. in what concerns its intra-urban and inter-urban development.
