Abstract:	A pesquisa pretendeu investigar a atuação do poder público na redefinição da rede urbana brasileira, no sentido de propiciar um maior grau de racionalidade à economia nacional e regional, através das políticas urbanas e regionais, com foco em determinados órgãos públicos de maior importância neste processo. Pretendeu também esclarecer o papel do grande capital industrial metropolitano na modernização econômica local e na reestruturação do mercado de trabalho em determinadas cidades médias no interior dos quatro estados da região sudeste.
Abstract:	The research aimed to investigate the role of public power in the redefinition of the Brazilian urban network, in order to provide a greater degree of rationality to the national and regional economy, through urban and regional policies, focusing on certain public agencies of greater importance in this process. It also sought to clarify the role of large metropolitan industrial capital in local economic modernization and the restructuring of the labor market in certain medium-sized cities in the four states of the Southeast region.
