A renovação do Méier e a cristalização de Piedade

Abstract

The paper examines the dynamics of the city's development from the 19th century, where its first urban problems, changes in socioeconomic relations and the introduction of new technologies led to the expansion of the urban network, thus creating new places of residence, previously restricted the central area of Rio de Janeiro. Within these new integrated areas the urban network stands out the suburb that emerged with the installation of the Central Railroad of Brazil. Several nuclei appeared around the stations inaugurated of this railway branch, among which Méier and Piedade were selected, that despite the same factors that contributed to the formation of these two districts, today their landscapes are quite different. Being the first, Méier, an example of a renewed landscape, and Piedade as an example of a neighborhood with crystallized landscape.
