The University Extension is one of the three pillars of the vocation of Universities that is composed of Teaching, Research and Extension. The Extension Course in Implant Dentistry of the Dental School of the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro is an example of this modality of education and training that promotes interaction between university and society through interdisciplinary educational processes. In recent years, the lack of investment in universities has negatively affected these types of courses, which, with limited resources, are forced to seek ways of management to maintain the supply of vacancies and the quality of education. It is essential, therefore, to evaluate the structures and management processes to enable both the continuity of teaching and training of students and the return to society. To do so, an approach was made to this study through the structuring of complex problems. The CHAP² methodology was applied for this structuring and a better understanding of the problem in order to arrive at satisfactory solutions that support the management of the extension course in Implantology. This methodology, in contrast with others that isolate the problem and move quickly to its solution, encompasses two levels: the perception of the problem and the intervention on the problem, in order to integrate the perspectives of the analysts and the agents involved. It is expected from this study a robust and holistic structuring of the critical points of the Extension Course in Implant Dentistry and the development and application of support tools for its management.
