Aspectos econômicos da adaptação às mudanças climáticas

Abstract

The article looks at the economic aspects of adaptation to climate change. In contrast to the literature on emissions mitigation, which has homogenizing and universal characteristics, adaptation issues are eminently local and differentiated. Adaptation policies require regional efforts and specific analysis, because the impacts of extreme climate events are particular to the context of each situation, such as floods, landslides, droughts and rising sea levels. In addition, developing countries should prioritize adaptation actions because the negative effects are likely to be stronger in the parts of the planet where the average temperature is already higher, especially in the intertropical zone. One general point, however, can be made: the consequences of extreme events caused by climate change tend to accentuate existing economic, social and regional inequalities.
