Territórios e territorialidades negras na Cidade de Deus

Abstract

This research defends the premise of Cidade de Deus, located in the west zone of Rio de Janeiro, is a black territory. This fact is not only related to the composition of its population, which is made up mostly of black people, but to the process of occupation an (r)existence of the territory being permeated with meanings that allude to Afro-Brazilian culture and history. To achieve this understanding, a bibliographical review and mapping of local expressions of art, culture and communication were carried out. Interactions in collectives, the actions of leaders and black activist associations in promoting the territory and mutual aid actions in Cidade de Deus are understood here, based on the exploration of its symbolic markers, in addition to outlining aspects of ist socio-spatial dynamics. Such popular management initiatives are necessary because of the scenario of inefficient public policies aime the neighborhood, and are configured in authentic forms of organization, generating in everyday life the overcomim of many of the disastrous effects of inequalities, in the construction of relationships and sociabilities that provide and share experiences, the black becoming.
