Surfando na onda coreana: k-pop, hallyu e fãs de k-pop no Brasil

Abstract

K-pop has become one of the most listened music genres in the world, with many masculine and feminine groups of idols trained by South Korean entertainment companies reaching millions or even billions of views on Youtube music videos, millions of sales of physical albums, world tours, high positions on musical charts that are difficult to enter, such as those in the United States. Brazil has not been left out of this new trend of the global music market, so that thousands of Brazilians have become not only audience members, but also more or less dedicated and engaged fans of K-pop and its idols. This dissertation aims to provide a synthetical overview of this global phenomenon that has arrived in Brazil, based of a analysis of K-pop as a music genre, its global expansion in the broader context of Hallyu or the Korean Wave, of the social profile and socially conditioned tastes of fans of this musical genre, the problems associated with to the legitimacy of theses tastes, as well as a sociological analysis of the category of a fan as a concept in Fandom Studies and as a native category and, finally, the logic of fan practices, focusing on K-cover, idol patronage and the production and reading of fanfics, in order to explain the common elements behind such distinct practices. This dissertation aims to be a synthetical contribution to the studies of Hallyu and Fandom based on the arrival of the Korean Wave in Brazil, guided especially by the theoretical perspective of Pierre Bourdieu and the Fandom Studies.
