Agente das águas: uma estratégia de gestão participativa dos recursos hídricos

Abstract

The Water Agent Program developed by the Oswaldo Cruz Foundation in several Brazilian states, whose purpose is to train volunteer community agents to monitor the quality of river water and to assist in the creation of participatory forums to discuss environmental problems in order to resolve them consensual and democratic. The objective of this work is to present a case study of the Agent of Waters Program through experiences regarding the participation and mobilization of society in some watersheds and watersheds in the states of Rio de Janeiro and Paraná, where the program already was implemented. Among these activities, we highlight the more effective participation of communities in the processes of building diagnoses of the local socio-environmental situation, in mobilizing communities around common goals and in more effective participation in decision-making with other social actors.
