Expansão e quantificação de favelas no município do Rio de Janeiro nas últimas décadas

Abstract

The work traces a historical panorama of the favelas of Rio de Janeiro, from its formation in the late nineteenth century until the 1980s. The quantification of favelas represents a difficulty for study and urban planning. Despite the focus that has been given to favela studies, this is still far from a solution. The definition of favela, the use of different methodologies and the fear of researching in the field are part of a set of factors that leave ambiguities in relation to the data about the favelas.
