Resumo

This thesis aimed to develop a Dynamic Analysis Framework for Carbon Emission Assessment in Buildings (DAFCB) using Bio-based Materials. Subsequently, the DAFCB was applied to assess the Bamboo Bio-concrete (BBC) potential as a strategy for mitigation (reduction of carbon emissions) and adaptation of Brazilian housing to climate change, in the context of a circular economy. The Dynamic Life Cycle Assessment (DLCA) methodology was used, with the cradle-to-grave scope, to calculate the carbon emission, considering a dynamic inventory over time. Six cities in different Brazilian Bioclimatic Zones (BZ) and scenarios were evaluated, where one scenario considered the planet’s average temperature increase due to global warming, and the other, the electricity grid matrix decarbonization. DAFCB proved to be more robust and sensitive for the evaluation of bio-based materials, in this case, the BBC. The use of BBC in building façades has the potential to bring gains of 15% to 43%, and it is more advantageous than conventional constructive systems (ceramic and concrete block masonry) in Brazil, for the six BZs and all the evaluated scenarios.
