Resumo

The access demand, in an integrated way, for multimedia services through wireless network which support more subscribers, with service quality, security, and mobility, covering farther distances and fulfilling their expectations on broadband enlargement, propelled the appearing of technologies such as World Wide Interoperability for Microwave Access (WiMax) and the pattern 802.16 of Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE 802.16). For being successful in conciliating these features, WiMax has been arousing attention in relation to other technologies and turning out to be the principal competitor of other networks that have already been launched, no matter if they are wireless or cable. The IEEE 802.16 supports a topology which is denominated mesh, where communication is effected through multi-hop routs, enabling alternative courses being established in case there is failure, providing a resilient mechanism. In this context, this work establishes resilience, and WiMax, through theoretical references, presenting the characteristics which are present in that technology which enables the conception of a resilient wireless broad-band network model.
