Clube de Engenharia: uma visão particular da cidade do Rio de Janeiro (1880-1901)

Abstract

The creation of the Engineering Club will mean the constitution of a body capable of knowing and planning the development of the city of Rio de Janeiro. The present work is an attempt to understand the role of this Club in the discussion about the need to sanitize and beautify the city of Rio de Janeiro at the turn of the 19th century to the 20th. Some opinions issued by the Club regarding plans and projects designed to improve the city will be addressed; and analyzed the discussions held at the Congress of Engineering and Industry, organized by the Club, which dealt with the question of sanitation of the city.
