Ritos de passagem, classes etárias e escola Mebêngokre: o ritual do Marimbondo

Abstract

This work aims to present the main aspects of the marimbondo ritual (ami'y), a male initiation ceremony for young warrior postulants. The ritual can be conceived as the passage between the two two main learning spaces for Mebêngôkre men, from the maternal house (kikre) to the warrior's house (ngà) and as an important step in the making of the male body. With the school assuming the functions of native institutions, such as those aimed at learning for the relationship with otherness, especially the non-indigenous ones, the work seeks to reflect on the place of the warrior vocation in the formal education of young Mebêngôkre.
