Transporte coletivo urbano, poluição do ar e externalidades: estudo de caso de Porto Alegre - RS

Abstract

This work examines the environmental valuation of externalities produced by the urban bus transport system in Porto Alegre. Therefore, the results produced by the Action Fund Project for the municipality under study are demonstrated. In this sense, the geographic selection is contextualized from the perspective of the management of its air quality, discussing the methodological procedures adopted for the analysis, which involves the use and adaptation to the national scenario of the Google Environmental Insights Explorer system (EIE GOOGLE). Then, the results obtained by the adopted system are cross-checked with the official local reports on air quality for the municipality, and then applied into epidemiological and environmental methodologies to estimate the causal link between the externalities produced by the activity of buses and harmful effects on human health. Finally, environmental valuation methods are applied to estimate the lost productivity and financial burden on the local public health sector when facing cases of morbidity and mortality associated with the externalities under analysis.
