A contribuição da terapia ocupacional na humanização da UTI neonatal

Abstract

The present work aims to analyze the process of humanization within the Neonatal Intensive Care (NICU), which, even with achievements acquired in legislation and with advances in the literature, do not present major changes in the reality of premature babies. The NICU, which should be its own space for recovery and well-being of the newborn, it becomes a stressful environment, impersonal and fearful for people who are unaware of their routine. Being thus, the health team's role is to contribute to the reduction of anxiety and fear of parents, providing them with minimum conditions of comfort, seeking answer your questions, offering simple explanations about the health and treatment of your child and giving greater importance to the child and not equipment or illness. In this context, Occupational Therapy (OT) will act in the NICU together with the multidisciplinary team, promoting environmental adaptations, decreasing excessive stimuli; carrying out the adequacy of care to the newborn, respecting the baby's behavioral indicators and using the therapeutic handling; in addition to offering support and guidance to parents and family members, aiming at a more humanized environment and assistance. This study aims to carry out a survey of national scientific publications on the topic Humanization in the NICU, in the online databases LILACS and MEDLINE, from 2004 to 2011. In addition, we intend to present the possible contributions of the OT professional, in their transdisciplinary relationship, in the which refers to humanized care for newborns and their families in the NICU.
