Nacionalismo em perspectiva: a propaganda política no Estado Novo e no governo Médici através de A Manhã (1941-1945) e Manchete (1969-1974)

Abstract

General political announcement, a normally and useful element in authoritarian regimes, raised public opinion during Vargas' Estado Novo and the Civil-Military Dictatorship, especially under Emilio Garrastazu Medici's government. This work studies the social control formula of both governments, focusing on the instrumentalization of nationalism in communication policies. The research compares the governments of Vargas and Medici, aiming at the use of nationalist propaganda to legitimize and consolidate power, enhancing the propaganda methods used, the political intentions on the background of these actions, and their impacts on the popularity of the governments and rulers. Through the analysis of the periodicals A Manhã and Manchete, this study seeks to understand how political propaganda influenced public opinion and the impacts of these strategies.
