A Bacia Austral e a viabilidade de exploração através do método magnetotelúrico

Abstract

This work describes in a nutshell some of the main geologic features which are relevant for the exploration of hydrocarbons of the Austral basin; which is located in the south extremity of Chile and Argentina; highlighting the stratigraphy and the historical, structural and petroleum geology. In order to study the exploration of the basin through eletromagnetic methods, we have made a description of the magnetotelluric method, exploring the theoretical ans practical fundamental aspects. A study about a magnetotelluric survey carried out in the Alberta Basin, in Canada, is presented as a suggestion of what could be done in the case of the Austral basin, taking into consideration the common features shared by both basins which have motivated the exploration through the magnetotelluric method.
