Abstract

This study conducts a literature review whose purpose is to discuss the importance of exercise of fatherhood for children. Were selected in scientific databases, articles published in Brazil between 2000 and 2010. Gender relations and the historic rescue of masculinity, as well as new family configurations are of fundamental importance for understanding the progress of studies on the subject in the decade. The participation of parents in the lives of their children down and bonds, making it essential for their development. Even in divorce, the parent must be present at his son's life so that it will not have behavioral problems. For children, the parent involvement in their lives makes them more physically healthy and emotionally secure. Currently the father participates in the prenatal, delivery and want to track the care of the children, although health services contribute to the removal of the men in these spaces. The presence at birth is a challenge faced by the father, especially in public hospitals. In medical consultations, often the man to wait in the waiting room. We conclude that the discussion of father absence is unsatisfying, since there are few data found on problem behavior in children and adolescents who do not live with their parents. It is related to health promotion, the contribution of workers in this area is needed to stimulate the transformation of this reality and the construction of new gender relations in society.
