Resumo

The objective of this thesis is to determine the distribution of concentration in turbulent flow with suspended solid particles. Two distinct analytic approaches are employed to determine the concentration distribution; the first one consists of a generalization of the similarity principle of Th. von Kármán, and the second has been based on the use of a sediment diffusion coeffcient. The concentration prophile obtained by the first approach can be applied satisfactorily to flows with high concentration of coarse particles and the results agree substantially with experimental data of flows, in which the major part of the transport took place at the lower part of the channel. On the other hand, the velocity prophile obtained agrees to a high degree of accuracy with experimental data, throughout the depth. of the channel. The second approach leads to a concentration distribution that can be applied to the whole depth of the channel. The theoretical results described in this thesis are in agreement with those obtained by Nordin and Dempster in measurements taken at the Midle Rio Grande, New Mexico. The total suspended load is derived by direct integration of the concentration prophile obtained by both methods. The solids discharge, derived from the second approach is compared with the one given by the Modified Procedure of Einstein.
