Abstract

The architectural evolution of the São Cristóvão Palace, formerly the Royal/Imperial Palace and currently the headquarters of the National Museum, a unit of the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ), is represented in this article in a digital environment. This dissertation aims to document and complement a project to rescue the architectural evolution of a historic building, through a set of models and digital reconstructions of the São Cristóvão Palace from 1808 to 1888. This project began from 2016 to 2018 at the Technical Office of the National Museum/UFRJ. In the continuation of this project, the aim is to complement the entire evolution of the Palace by including the phases from the 20th century to the 1940s. In this second stage, the research is improved based on more advanced exploratory research, following the principle of scientific rigor, based on primary sources, articles, dissertations and master's and doctoral theses, in addition to physical equipment (hardware and software) with superior performance. The result of this step are images of better quality and veracity compared to reality, a desirable objective in the process of digital reconstruction. These results are not yet ideal, however, they can be improved in future versions.
