The Psychiatric Reform and the Brazilian Health Reform movements consolidated the fight for the rights of people suffering or with mental disorders from the years 1970. In Brazil, with the approval of Law 10,216 in 2001, there is greater incentive to the new care model and increase in the number of alternative health care services mental. They are important devices for the consolidation of the new model of care to mental health in Brazil the Psychosocial Care Centers (CAPS). This study had by objective to characterize the population served by these services in the city of Rio de Janeiro, from 2015 to 2017, from outpatient production data sources. Twenty three CAPS had their records included in the analysis, in which 12,649 users were assisted regularly. With these people, 505,146 health care actions were carried out. The male population is higher overall (61.5%), especially in CAPS alcohol and drugs (81.6%) and children and adolescents (71.1%). Regarding race-color, 39% of the entries did not had filling in the information. In adult CAPS types II and III, most users had a diagnosis of F20 (Schizophrenia). Almost 40% of registered activities were individual consultations. In children's CAPS, 31.5% of activities were carried out with family members. Despite being the type of unit prioritized for attention to people with severe mental problems, the systematic analysis of the population served in these services has not been published in the research literature. Existing studies focus on mostly in specific units, presenting analyzes of the population served to from the investigation of medical records. In addition, the high number of duplications found in the base obtained initially suggests application or process inconsistencies for data feed. Recognize the profile of users of the Centers Psychosocial care allows you to design strategies that are better suited to your needs of this population. The magnitude of the municipality of Rio de Janeiro and the number and variety of CAPS included in the survey provide an overview to consider, particularly for the more than 12,000 user records that could be evaluated. You CAPS are strategic devices for reorienting the mental health care model and it is necessary to systematize knowledge about people being served in these services to amplify its capacity for action.
