A ocupação de imóveis na cidade do Rio de Janeiro: quem, como, onde e por quê?

Abstract

The urban space appears as the action of several agents who live in intense struggle for equal rights of access to housing, education, health and sanitation, employment, transports, culture. In this context of social tension, urban social movements get importance, becausa they are the main form of expression of the excluded classes from the appropriation process of urban space. Currently, the city of Rio de Janeiro is getting ready for megaevents, for which innumerable works and modifications are being made, from building roads to transport thematic installations, which has led to numerous removals of residents. The issue of housing starts to gain prominence, because it involves not only a house to live in, but also access to sanitation, transportation, quality of health, education and entertainment. A "new" form of access to housing is poorly studied: the occupation of empty properties and / or abandoned: the squats. The final paper has as objectives theorizing about the squatters, and, to seek an initial understanding on the current issue of squats in the context of megaevents in the city of Rio de Janeiro, in particular with regard to project implementation "Porto Maravilha". The paper seeks to answer some questions: Who are the squatters? Why squatting? What are the purpose of the squats? How did the squats start? What is the legal foundation for the squats? What are the different organizations working in the city of Rio de Janeiro? Where to find the squats? And what is the influence of "Porto Maravilha" on the squats?
